Stellantis, the multinational automobile manufacturer, has announced a significant investment in its manufacturing operations in South America. The company will allocate $385 million to its plant located in Córdoba, Argentina, over the next five years, from 2025 to 2030. This investment is a key part of Stellantis’ plan to invest a total of 5.6 billion euros (approximately 6.22 billion dollars) in the South American market during the same period.
Emanuele Cappellano, head of Stellantis for South America, revealed this strategy in an online press conference held on Thursday. He explained that the allocated funds will be used to establish a new vehicle production line and develop a new engine. However, Cappellano did not provide specific details about the models or technologies involved in these developments.
In addition to the investment in the Córdoba plant, Cappellano offered updates on upcoming Stellantis products. The company is set to introduce its first flex-hybrid vehicles in Brazil within this year. These innovative vehicles will have the ability to run on 100% ethanol, gasoline, or a combination of both, complemented by battery power.
This move follows the recent announcement by General Motors, which revealed its plans to begin producing its own flex-hybrid vehicles in Brazil. The Brazilian market has become increasingly attractive to global automakers due to its robust ethanol industry, which supports vehicles capable of running on biofuels derived from sugar cane and corn.
Growing interest in hybrid-flex technology in Brazil highlights a broader trend among automakers looking to tap into the country’s vast ethanol resources and respond to growing demand for green transportation options.
